30 Days • 50,000 Words • One Life-Changing Experience
What is National Novel Writing Month? NaNoWriMo is an effort to encourage people to work on that novel they've always intended to write "someday"--TODAY!
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30. Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.
Throughout November, aspiring authors work on their novels with encouragement from authors and other writers, and keep track of their word counts on the NaNoWriMo website.
If you’re participating for the first or fifteenth time, DPL has resources and spaces for you to use! As part of NaNoWriMo’s Come Write In program, our reading room (located on the second floor of the library) will be providing meeting spaces, writer's resources, and encouragement. Skip the scramble for outlets at coffee bars and come to the library to connect with your fellow writers and find advice on world building, character development, plot mapping, revision and sustaining your motivation. Submit your first page to our Page One Writing Contest by or before November 30th for a chance at prizes and notoriety.
